Sprint has just announced that it’ll start selling the HTC EVO 4G handset on June 4, for $199.99. This Android smartphone is the first 4G WiMAX handset available via a US carrier and it also comes with 2 way video chat, courtesy of Qik’s services.

HTC EVO 4G includes top notch features like a 4.3 inch capacitive TFT touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture, dual LED flash, autofocus and digital zoom.
This smartphone runs Android 2.1 and comes with a microSD/microSDHC card slot, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 512MB RAM, 1GB ROM, Bluetooth and A-GPS.

T-Mobile has just introduced officially the myTouch 3G Slide phone, a device that features a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a customized version of Android 2.1. This unit is not much thicker than myTouch 3G, at 0.6 inches and its main appeal is certainly the great keyboard (spacing and clickability).

On board of the new myTouch you’ll find a 3.4 inch HVGA touchscreen, complete with homescreen panels, plus an optical joystick and a “Genius Button”. The latter is used for voice commands, allowing you to find landmarks in the area or perform an Internet search. This is the first Android 2.1 handset on T-Mobile that relies on Sense UI, with a couple of advantages, like an application switcher.

Software tweaks also include a Faves Gallery app, showing up to 20 frequently contacted people and their social networking updates. As far as connectivity is concerned, myTouch 3G Slide supports WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G, while its specs list also includes a 5 megapixel camera and a GPS. Slide will be available from June, with a review coming to major blogs soon.

While some of us are still waiting for the HTC Hero to get at least the Android 1.6 update, others managed to have fun with Android 2.1 on T-Mobile G1 units and MyTouch handsets, too. It’s all done thanks to a CyanogenMod port, that you can check out in action in the video below:

This is version 5.0.7 of Cyanogen’s ROM, working flawlessly, as you can see, but the software still needs some cooking. The developer has also been messing with ROMs for Nexus One and Motorola Droid, but apparently there was already a way to run Android 2.1 on the G1, as shown on XDA Developers.

As we announced before that the HTC will earn FCC Blessing  this month , now we can confirm that the HTC Evo 4G just cleared the FCC.

Till now I did not get
the full details, but for now we can say it runs WiMAX on Sprint's (and Clearwire's) 2500MHz band. We hope that clearing the FCC means the Evo 4G will soon be ready.[via engadget]

 

The folks of MobileCowboys.nl have good new for HTC fans: the Tera model, leaked a while back, has just received the FCC blessing and it’ll hit the market this month. This is a Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone that’s a successor to the HTC Touch Pro 2, on the low end side.

HTC Tera is 15.5mm thick, it supports WCDMA/HSPA connectivity, plus GSM/GPRS/EDGE and it uses a 3 inch WQVGA resistive touchscreen display. Its specs list, leaked a bunch of weeks ago also includes a 3.2 megapixel camera, 512MB flash memory, 256MB RAM, a microSD card slot, WiFi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR.
GPS/AGPS, a 1300 mAh battery, a 600 MHz CPU and a Motion G sensor round up the specs list of the handset.

 

Phandroid’s forums have recently mentioned a release date for the long awaited HTC Incredible, apparently scheduled for launch on Verizon for April 25th. This date makes sense, specially considering that it’ll take place on a Sunday, the traditional Verizon launch day. Another piece of evidence is an email sent by the carrier to its employees.

A new Best Buy Mobile slide also mentions another launch date, this time via the previously mentioned retailer. We’re talking about 29th April, the Best Buy release date for HTC Incredible.

Meanwhile, we learn that LG Cosmos is also coming to the market on April 25th, while Samsung Reality is scheduled for a 22nd release. Quite a busy end of the month for both Verizon and Best Buy.

The folks of XDA Developers have done it again: they’ve managed to port Ubuntu to HTC Diamond2, with the image of the software being created by user sebbo90. Ubuntu works both on HTC Touch Pro2 and Diamond2, but on the first device it provides better functionality, since there’s a physical keyboard incorporated, plus WiFi and GPRS can be configured elaborately.

The guys over at blog.chip.ro played with Diamond2 and Ubuntu, managing to boot the device, start the task manager and Firefox. They promised to also make an image of the software complete with virtual keyboard and discover the full potential of the platform on this smartphone.
This project bears the name of Rhobuntu (Ubuntu on HTC Rhodium and Topaz) and it has a dedicated website over here. Ubuntu is able to boot, show a graphical interface, supports touch input, WiFi, GPRS, Firefox, AbiWord and Terminal. It can mount and access the SD card and you’ll be able to download it from here.

After the download is completed, you can copy the content to the SD card, then you’ll have to enter the Ubuntu directory and start haret.exe. If the loading process is stuck, you’ll need to delete the content on the card and copy the image again. Afterwards, you’ll start the WiFi, enter the command “iwlist eth0 scan essid YOUR_AP”, with YOUR_AP being the name of your AP. Next, the icon in the bar will allow you to set the connectivity data.

Google might have found out about the poor sales performance of the Nexus One, so they want to expand, thus launching a new version of the Nexus One, compatible with more bands. This GSM unit comes with support for AT&T and Rogers Wireless 3G/UMTS connectivity. It supports 850/1900/2100 MHz bands and it goes for the same price of $529.

We remind you that the original model supported the T-Mobile-friendly 900/AWS/2100 MHz bands, so this is a welcome addition. This decision opens the market to more types of users, although we haven’t heard of any subsidy option.
T-Mobile is still offering the device, with rumours that HTC is shipping CDMA versions of the Nexus One, getting ready to sell them on Verizon.

Romanian site Mobilissimo.ro managed to uncover that the HTC Hero follow-up, HTC Legend is already selling in Eastern Europe, Romania to be more precise. Apparently this is no legend (see what we did here?), since the device is already in the portofolio of some local retailers, going for EUR 340 plus taxes.

Add a bunch of extra fees to this initial price, convert it and you’ll get around $575, which is quite a lot for a smartphone that’s not as good as the long awaited HTC Desire. We’ve previously heard that this handset was coming earlier than estimated (April), but hitting the Eastern side of Europe this early is unexpected.
What do you get for the price that equals a well-specced iPad? Well, HTC Legend packs a 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch display, 384MB RAM, 512MB ROM, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps connectivity, WiFi, the Sense interface, an optical trackball and Android 2.1.
Beneath the case there’s a 600 Mhz Qualcomm MSM 7227 CPU and the device also incorporates a 5 megapixel camera wit autofocus, LED flash and geotagging. When will this product hit the rest of Europe and the US, too?

 

An XDA Developers member seems to have an inside source with the main distributor for HTC and he claims that the company plans on releasing the next Touch Pro model this summer. HTC Touch Pro3 will apparently go on sale in Europe in Q3 and we also learned that the device will be smaller and thinner than its predecessors.

We could be talking about the previously leaked HTC Tera (present in HTC’s roadmap), a QWERTY slider with a 3 inch WQVGA resistive display. It’s quite unlikely that the device will run Windows Phone 7, so it might rely on WM 6.5 for now and maybe, just maybe get a WP 7 upgrade later on.
Take the info with a grain of salt, since it could all be rumours and speculations, as far as we know.

 

It’s been a while since we heard a rumour saying that the employees of a certain carrier are getting ready for a handset’s launch. HTC Desire is the perfect reason for T-Mobile USA employees to do so, at least that’s what a mysterious manager of a T-Mobile store claims. Apparently, the employees are gearing up for Desire right now.

HTC Desire is only one of the many new devices coming to T-Mobile, but probably the most impressive specs-wise. The info that was leaked on the web is also backed up by some inside sources, so it’s pretty much real. However, some folks speculated that this new mystery device that’s been tested is in fact HTC HD2 or CLIQ XT.

 

HTC Desire, the Nexus One twin is about to get even sexier, through a couple of feats added by an upcoming software update. In case you don’t remember, this device uses the HTC Sense UI, its major difference from the Nexus One. What’s coming in the next update? DivX support and 720P video encoding.

If you remember, the HTC roadmap leaked on the web back in December mentioned the handset as HTC Bravo and had “HD ready” written on it, so we’d expect the feature to be present. In case you’re wondering why DivX support wasn’t present on the phone in the first place, it may be the fault of the handset getting rushed towards release.
DivX support will allow the users to watch movies from their SD cards, playing them without issues. Meanwhile, you might be interested to know that some folks have come up with a petition to implement Nintendo and PSX emulator on Android. Back to the update, it seems that Desire will also get 720P video encoding.

 

At the previously concluded Mobile Word Congress last February, HTC has unveiled their latest smartphones and this includes the HTC HD mini.

Design

The HTC HD Mini is a miniaturized version of the first generation HTC HD. This smartphone has a 3.2 inch touchscreen rather than the 3.8 inch screen of its big brother. HTC's latest smartphone also has a capacitive touchscreen rather than the previous resistive touchscreen on the HTC HD. Even though its smaller because of the smaller screen area, in terms of thickness, the HD Mini is only a hair thinner.

Features

The HTC HD mini will run the latest version of Windows Phone Starter Edition or previously knows as Windows Mobile 6.5. Like the latest HTC HD2, this handset supports multitouch and has an accelerometer and proximity sensor.



Another upgraded feature of the HD Mini is its processor and memory. While the previous version runs 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, this one has a 600MHz processor plus an improved memory of 384MB RAM compared with the previous 288MB RAM. Aside from those improvements, everything else seems to be the same. The HTC HD Mini is expected to be available around April this month and no, it's not going to be upgradeable to the latest Windows Phone 7 series OS because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements of a 1GHz processor.

 

T-Mobile is bringing the HTC HD2 to the U.S. this spring, and offering heaps of media to light up its 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display.

Number four U.S. mobile operator T-Mobile has announced it will be launching the HTC HD2 this spring…and will be offering tons of mobile media so customers get full use of the device’s 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display. Plus, the HD2 runs Windows Mobile, so some users might even be able to convince their bosses setting their hands on one is a work-related expense.

“T-Mobile is committed to offering innovative solutions to connect, inspire, and entertain our customers through the power of mobile technology,” said T-Mobile USA’s marketing VP George Harrison, in a statement. “By combining leading innovation in the world of entertainment with the large screen and processing power of the HTC HD2, we’ve created a unique and powerful mobile entertainment experience.”
The HTC HD2 packs a 1 GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor, that aforementioned 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, and runs Windows Mobile 6.5 so it comes with mobile versions of Office applications, Outlook and Internet Explorer, Windows Media player, and more. The HD2 features an integrated GPS, microSD removable storage, and a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash.
Of course, T-Mobile wants the HD2 to look its best, and to that end it’s piling on the mobile media options with pre-installed media applications and pre-loaded consent. T-Mobile will be pre-loading the Barnes & Noble Reader app, Blockbuster On-Demand, and MobiTV. T-Mobile will also be pre-loading the HD2 with Paramount’sTransformers andTransformers: Revenge of the Fallen on a memory card, and will include six months of free Gogo Inflight Internet service.
How much will all this cost? T-Mobile isn’t saying yet, but says the HD2 will be available “this spring” and more details are forthcoming.

T-Mobile has also taken the wraps off a HSPA+ USB modem dubbed the webConnect Rocket, which will be the first device to leverage the HSPA+ capability T-Mobile is rolling out in selected markets. In theory, the webConnect Rocket will be able to offer up to 21Mbps downstream bandwidth and 5.76Mbps upstream, although in practice that’s usually about 6 to 7 Mbps downstream and about 2.5 Mbps upstream. The webConnect Rocket will have a microSD slot so it will function as a storage device, and should work with Windows and Macintosh systems; T-Mobile hasn’t announced pricing, but expects the webConnect Rocket modem should be available in March. Right now, HSPA+ service from T-Mobile is only operating in Philadelphia, but the company has said it plans to light up major markets along the eastern and western U.S. seaboards in the near future, with the majority of its network running HSPA+ by the end of the year.

 

HTC at Mobile World Congress is no less than its competitors and has 3 new smartphones, some of them already announced previously. The new handsets are HTC Legend (already seen, the successor Hero HTC, HTC Desire (known as HTC Bravo) and HTC HD Mini (mini version Hct HD2).

As mentioned in previous articles, the HTC Legend will consist of a unique aluminum body (except the display of course) confer resistance, but elegant at the same time. Designated successor Hct Hero (but only spiritually), it takes the form, but with some changes. The trackball, for example, has been replaced by the optical mouse. Following features complete:

HTC has a second terminal Android: HTC Desire, codenamed HTC Bravo. If you notice the design is very similar to the Nexus One. Even the technical characteristics are very similar, only difference, the HTC Desire introduces a new version of the Sense.

After finding out the full specs list for HTC Legend yesterday, we’ve come across the website of a Dutch retailer, KPN, that includes the device in its offer. We remind you that Legend hasn’t been officially announced by HTC.

Specs are also listed, together with a seemingly official picture of the handset, that you can see above. HTC Legend will be available starting March 2010, so it’ll probably show its face during Mobile World Congress 2010, in Barcelona.
We remind you that the handset comes with a 3.2 inch display, a 5 megapixel camera, 512MB of ROM memory, 256MB RAM, aGPS, WiFi and FM radio.

 

If you’re frustrated by the fact that HTC didn’t make available a Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for HTC Touch HD, there’s another solution waiting for you: Android OS 2.0.1. See the platform running on the HTC smartphone in the video below:

The usual bugs are present and connectivity issues will also appear (lack of WiFi or Bluetooth), plus a bit of lag, if you’re paying attention to the video. This is a test build, so expect fixes soon, specially if you’re kind enough to make a few comments and provide feedback to the developers.
This system is based on haret, so there’s no flashing involved, meaning that your handset will be restored to Windows Mobile on soft reset.
