Blacksn0w Unlocked iOS 4 on iPhone 3GS [Video]
The guy who previously unlocked iOS 4.0 Beta 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4), PwnageTool bundles for iPhone 3GS on iOS 4 and Blacksn0w RC2 patch for iPhone 3.1.3 is now back with a new patch, which makes Blacksn0w unlock compatible with iOS 4.0, provided that you have preserved your baseband to 05.11.07 using PwnageTool.
Description of the file blacksn0w4GM.tgz, as mentioned by msft.guy is as follows.

Warning Note: I haven’t tested it yet. But according to my sources, this is working on a 3GS with 05.11.07 baseband. Also the Blacksn0w binaries which are used to unlock are buggy at best. You will need to reapply the patch every time you reboot your phone. Proceed only if you are an advanced user, and know your iPhone inside out. Otherwise, wait for the official unlock and jailbreak tools which will be out in about two weeks time. We are not responsible if you end up bricking or locking your phone.
Step 1: Use the instructions posted here to first jailbreak your iPhone 3GS using PwnageTool bundles on the latest GM release of iOS 4.0. Using this method, you will be able to preserve your older 05.11.07 baseband.
Step 2: Download the latest patched version of Blacksn0w for iOS 4.0 GM from here.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.0 with PwnageTool – Complete Guide
We did inform you about PwnageTool bundles which were released yesterday to jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.0 (formerly iPhone OS 4), while preserving your baseband on the older 05.11.07 or 04.26.08 so that you can unlock it using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w. We got lots requests via twitter, facebook and email for full instructions on how to patch the existing version of PwnageTool so that it can work with iOS 4.0 GM release. And so here are the complete set of instructions for you to get it to work.
Warning / Note: Perform the following instructions at your own risk only. I am not responsible if you end up bricking or locking your phone. Only proceed if you are an advanced user, and know what you are doing. Otherwise, wait for the official tools which would be out soon.
Supported Device(s):
iPhone 3GS ONLY, with older bootrom which has at least been jailbroken once with either redsn0w, PwnageTool, Blackra1n or Sn0wbreeze. If your phone is one of those with newer bootrom, and has only been jailbroken with Spirit, this is not for you. You will end up getting 1600/1604 error when restoring the custom cooked firmware via iTunes.
What is working and what isn’t?
I have tested it and it worked for me. But since I don’t rely on an unlock, I couldn’t test the ultrasn0w or blacksn0w part. Of all the reports that I have got from various testers, I can confirm that this method will preserve your baseband, but ultrasn0w or blacksn0w unlock wont work now as they need an update for iOS 4. So if you rely on an unlock, I will suggest you stay away from this, but if you desperately want to jailbreak your device, you can do it now while preserving your baseband but you will only be able to unlock it once ultrasn0w update is released in approx. two weeks time.
Step 1: Download PwnageTool 3.1.5 from the download link given here.
Step 2: Download the latest version of PwnageTool Bundles from msft.guy here and then extract it to your desktop.
Step 3: Download iOS 4.0 for iPhone 3GS, and iTunes 9.2 Beta for Mac. You can get the official bits if you are a registered developer, or from different content sharing sites around the web. Please do not ask for the download links, a simple Google will do it all !
Step 4: Download the updated Cydia bits (data.tar file) from here.
Step 5: Copy PwnageTool that you downloaded in Step 1 to your desktop. Right click, and then click on “Show Package Contents” as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 6: Navigate to Contents\Resources\FirmwareBundles\ and paste iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_bundle.bundle file in this location and then simply close this folder.
Step 7: Now navigate again to Contents/Resources/CustomPackages/CydiaInstaller.bundle/ and paste data.tar file (for Cydia) that you downloaded in Step 4.
Step 8: Start “Terminal” program on your Mac and run the following commands:
once you are done, close all the open windows.
Step 9: Now start this patched version of PwnageTool, Select iPhone 3GS as your device and you will now notice that PwnageTool will automatically detect iOS 4 firmware file as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 10: create a custom-cooked iOS 4 firmware file which will preserve your old baseband.
Step 11: Once the .ipsw file has been created, you will now have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 4.0 that you just cooked using PwnageTool 3.1.5 for your iPhone 3GS. Start iTunes 9.2 Beta, Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” (option) button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release this button.
This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.0. Select that custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Step 12: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.0 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3GS running on iOS 4.0.

Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS Firmware 4.0 GM [Mac]
In the last post, we provided you links to download iTunes 9.2 beta and iOS 4 GM for iPhone and iTouch. If you are in a hurry to upgrade and jailbreak, there’s a trick that will allow you to use PwnageTool and create a custom firmware. Since the baseband of our iPhones was already upgraded, we can’t confirm 100% that it will preserve your baseband and that you can unlock. Use it at your own risk.
NOTE: this is not an official DevTeam release, so if you don’t know what you’re getting into, you better wait for an official iOS/jailbreak/unlock release.
You will need:
NOTE: The Cydia package that is currently in PwnageTool does not work for 4.0. The easiest way to get it working is to download the redsn0w jailbreak for beta 4 and extract Cydia from there and put it into your custom PwnageTool.
How to:
1. Download the bundle and all the tools and place them on your desktop
2. First, you will need to download the custom bundle and copy it into PwnageTool. To do that, right click on PwnageTool.app and ‘Show Package Contents’ .
Browse to Contents>Resources>Firmware Bundles> and copy thecustom bundle…
3. Right click on redsn0w.app and ‘Show Package Contents’. Browse to Contents>MacOS> . Copy Cydia.tar.gz on your desktop and extract its content.
Now you will need to copy Cydia into PwnageTool.app. To do that, right click on Pwnagetool.app and ‘Show Package Contents’. Browse to : Contents>Resources>CustomPackages> right click on ‘CydiaInstaller.bundle’ and ‘Show Package Contents’ > Files> and overwrite all the files with the ones you just extracted from redsn0w
4. That’s it. Now load PwnageTool.app and create your custom firmware. If you don’t know how, check this tutorial
5. Once you got the custom .ipsw, you will restore your iOS device via iTunes. Your iOS device must be jailbroken. Put the device in recovery mode and restore.
NOTE: this is NOT an official DevTeam release, and we cannot 100% confirm that it will preserve your baseband. Use it at your own risk…

Unlock for 05.12.01 Baseband on iPhone 3.1.3 is Coming in June !
While replying to a tweet, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that an unlock for iPhone 3G/3GS on 05.12.01 baseband will be released once Apple announces the new iPhone along with final GM version of iPhone OS 4. This announcement is expected to be made at WWDC 2010 so it wont be long before we finally get our iPhones unlocked on this baseband.
The said conversation between MuscleNerd and EmmanueGT is as follows.
In the meantime, If you are on iPhone OS 3.1.3, you can follow our step by step guides to jailbreak iPhone 3GS with Spirit here, iPod touch 3G untethered here, and iPad on OS 3.2 here. You can also use redsn0w 0.9.3, redsn0w 0.9.4, sn0wbreeze, PwnageTool 3.1.5 to jailbreak iPhone and iPod touch. Unlocking can be done using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w.

@MuscleNerd will there be a unlock software coming out for the 3gs 3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01 when the new iPhone 4g comes out??Also, DO NOT update your iPhone firmware to OS 4 once it is released in June. Doing so will update your baseband to 05.13 which may or may not be unlockable for some time. PwnageTool will of course be upgraded to take care of baseband when you are upgrading to iPhone OS 4.
@EmmanueGT yep..so don’t sell or give away your 3GS(at same time, remember not to accept Apple FW upgrades in future)

PwnageTool 4.0 for iPhone 3GS OS 4.0 Jailbreak Puts Your Device at Risk. Stay Away
There is a new modified version of PwnageTool floating around in the wild which promises to jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iPhone OS 4 Beta without upgrading the baseband. The creators of the original PwnageTool has confirmed that this version has been modified and redistributed without their permission, and most importantly, it doesn’t patches some important files which are required for the ultrasn0w unlock to work properly.
@iH8sn0w hah the bigger problem is people risking their baseband with this rogue pirated PT from @4n0nym0u5DEV (which doesn’t even work!)

News Jailbreak Firmware 4.0 : Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 4 is out !
Update 2 : Jailbreak tool for Mac Users
only Mac users and using Firmware 4.0 Beta (then you have to be a Dev) can jailbreak this beta 4 version with the new version of Redsn0w 0.9.5 B4 released by Dev Team.
Redsn0w has just been updated to beta 4 to support the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 firmware. iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 was released by Apple last week, which since Beta 2 has closed the jailbreak loophole used by Redsn0w 0.9.5b1 and b2 to jailbreak OS 4. But with this latest version of redsn0w, you should be able to jailbreak iPhone OS 4 again on iPhone 3G.
An excerpt from iPhone Dev-Team on this release is as follows.
This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it’s not applicable to the iPad. Don’t go near it if you use yellowsn0w, ultrasn0w, or blacksn0w.Instructions to jailbreak iPhone 3G on iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 using Redsn0w 0.9.5b4 are exactly similar to the last release.
YOU SHOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS BETA SOFTWARE IF YOU RELY ON A CARRIER UNLOCK. That’s because the beta redsn0w works only if your device has already been upgraded to the stock 4.0beta1/beta4 IPSW from Apple, which contains a baseband update. If you installed that IPSW, you’ve already lost the carrier unlock until the next planned release of ultrasn0w and blacksn0w.

Update : Jailbreak of Firmware 4.0 Beta is done !
Team iH8sn0w has announced through his twitter that they have succeeded to jailbreak Beta version of Firmware 4.0 but they can NOT post their tool for different reasons.
iH8sn0w is working since yesterday on the jailbreak of Firmware 4.0 beta, read this.1: It cannot restore on a PC, only a Mac can. There is no way to make it run on a PC.
2: Its very very buggy
3: This is mean't for developers to test new api's.
4: it has a 58% sucess restore rate.
5: It would promote more piracy. Meaning users would illegally download the ipsw and bypass the UDID trap.
Dev Team has recently updated their blog, announcing a beginning of work of jailbreak on Firmware 4.0

iPad 3G is Now Jailbroken; Proof Caught on Camera (Video)
The iPhone Dev Team is at work again, this time through its member, MuscleNerd, who has managed to jailbreak Apple’s iPad 3G. MuscleNerd hacked the tablet thanks to the jailbreak app “Spirit”, the work of @comex. Originally, this software was released in April, in order to hack the WiFi-only iPad.
We have to mention that the Spirit jailbreak can be used on the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G and the iPads with success. However, keep in mind that Apple can prevent you from downgrading, unless you’re using a backup of personalized SHSH blobs. Among Spirit’s key features you’ll find untethered jailbreak, support for more of Apple’s devices and the requirement for the gadgets to be activated or hacktivated.
You can download Spirit from here, but we have to mention that this jailbreak method doesn’t include a carrier unlock.

iFixer by Kirma.. Released for Blackra1n and Spirit Users
A new tool has been released by Kirma that will fix iTunes 9.x when using blackra1n or Spirit jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It fixes issues such as the ASL.dll error when running blackra1n and the iTunes error when using Spirit.
The program has two buttons which are "Make it Spirit" for Spirit users and "Make it ra1n" for blackra1n users, Clicking on each of them will solve the respective iTunes 9.1.1 related issue.
The tool is very simple to use.Just put iFixer in the same folder as blackra1n and Spirit then run it as Administrator. Hit the button related to your tool and you’re good to go.
You can Download iFixer for Windows from here.
The program has two buttons which are "Make it Spirit" for Spirit users and "Make it ra1n" for blackra1n users, Clicking on each of them will solve the respective iTunes 9.1.1 related issue.
The tool is very simple to use.Just put iFixer in the same folder as blackra1n and Spirit then run it as Administrator. Hit the button related to your tool and you’re good to go.
